ABOUT DNLA
Partnership with University of Delaware Cooperative Extension
The Delaware Nursery and Landscape Association and the University of Delaware have had a long-standing relationship. When the DNLA was founded, the Extension Specialist for Ornamental Horticulture, Dr. Charlie Dunham, was the secretary of the DNLA. He took notes and scheduled meetings. As the DNLA evolved, they were able to hire an executive director and take responsibility for running the organization. The Extension Specialist for Ornamental Horticulture now functions as an educational advisor to the DNLA.
The University of Delaware and the DNLA cosponsor a variety of educational meetings throughout the year (Horticulture Industry Expo in January; Summer Landscape Expo in August; Turf and Ornamentals Workshop in November). In addition, the DNLA supports other University educational efforts for the Nursery and Landscape Industry such as the Ornamentals Short Course Series (each winter/early spring and fall) and the Ornamentals Research Expo in September. The University of Delaware Ornamentals Task Force is a group comprised of extension professionals, faculty and University of Delaware Botanic Garden personnel. This group provides programming to meet the needs of the nursery and landscape industry.
The Extension Specialist for Ornamental Horticulture writes, edits and publishes the quarterly DNLA News. The DNLA's successful Certified Nursery Professional Program developed through collaboration between DNLA industry leaders and extension professionals at the University of Delaware.
